Health News (Week 19 - 2014)
By Robert Redfern

New readers may first want to read my original magnesium oil* article below.

For my readers who have already read about Ancient Minerals Magnesium OIL, I want to report on the new formulations combining Magnesium Oil and OptiMSM, which have been introduced over the past year.

The Ancient Minerals range is now complete with ULTRA versions of Oil, Lotion and Bath Flakes. The OIL ULTRA also has a travel size (125ml), which is very useful. I have previously written how I, (like most people), was naturally deficient in the critical mineral magnesium. My problems included cramps, athlete’s foot, a rash around my ankles in the winter and aching tensed muscles (especially the neck), all symptoms of a magnesium deficiency.

As a recap, Magnesium has many health benefits including: supporting heart conditions (AFIB), reducing tiredness & fatigue, normal muscle function, more energy, normal functioning of your nervous system, helps to maintain normal bones & teeth, helping the problems I had and many MANY more….I could go on forever!

I raved over the ORIGINAL Oil (as you can read below) but it was so powerful it did have a little sting and some had to wash it off after 30 minutes or dilute it (some complained!). Do not be put off….all is solved with OIL ULTRA.

The ‘ULTRA’ range contains a patented form of MSM (OptiMSM) that has been shown in published studies to dramatically improve the absorption of anything it is mixed with. It also substantially improves the absorption of Magnesium Oil. OptiMSM already has a large range of studies in its own right including: joints, liver, healthy skin and immune health. I believe it improves the usefulness of Magnesium OIL by up-to 400% and it does not sting!

I can state that the winter just gone, for me, is the first for having neither an outbreak of athlete’s foot nor the rash around my ankles. I still use the OIL ULTRA daily on my legs, neck and chest muscles (chest muscles for my heart valve recovery plan, for which magnesium is essential).

I have also started to use the Ancient Minerals Magnesium LOTION ULTRA on my face as part of my recent plan to keep and improve my skin’s youthfulness. It is looking good and I will report in 3-6 months on this. It’s fair to say I am a big magnesium fan!

Bath Flakes ULTRA are good for your personal spa time, especially for bathing children with emotional problems and elderly people with lower leg/feet problems. Using this in one of the foot-bath spas is a perfect and easy way to get magnesium and MSM into the lower limbs. Poor circulation and lack of magnesium is the cause of many foot and lower limb problems.

Last time I said “I often get asked which is best!” Now I can say I believe any from the ‘ULTRA range’. They are all great and all have specific benefits.

*My previous story about Magnesium Oil:

Magnesium is of great interest to me personally because for many years I’d read that magnesium deficiency was implicated in many of my problems.

I took supplements including the magnesium citrates (claimed to be the best) and changed over to the highest magnesium rich diet that I could. This included 2 avocadoes some days and many greens, but my problems did not improve.

My two main problems which I will share were athlete’s foot and cramp in my calves. So imagine my amazement when I applied Ancient Minerals Magnesium Oil spray (a new product at the time) to both of these and they cleared within 24 hours.

I can still identify the connection because if I go more than a week without magnesium oil they will come back. Once or twice per week keeps them clear.

I restarted weight lifting a while back (after many years out) and was warned by the coach that my muscles would ache the next day. Guess what? No aching whatsoever. I applied the oil to the muscles I worked and took my regular supplements.

This time it was lots of gain and no pain!

Feedback from practitioners at the show included case studies that they had successfully used magnesium for. These were all far more serious than my cramp and athlete’s foot and included one on atrial fibrillation and general irregular heartbeat.

I’ve also had feedback from Debbie Harrison at Good Health Naturally who has managed to stop her similar health problems with the Magnesium Oil. It was good to hear practitioners getting excited over a product so simple yet so powerful.

To apply, you just massage it into the heart, stomach area and major muscles every day. Then reduce to a few times per week to test how little you need.

Back to the show: Other feedback we received on successful magnesium uses included: general pain and spasms, joints, energy levels, muscle function, stress, sleep, detoxification, psoriasis, eczema, other skin conditions and especially menstrual cramps.

If you too have a story, please send it to us. It helps to get as wide a picture as possible on just what can be helped when the problem has been caused by a magnesium deficiency.

So what is Magnesium?

Often revered as the ‘Beautiful Mineral’ in Chinese medicine, magnesium is thought to be as important to the body as water and air!

Although there are only several ounces of magnesium in your body it is implicated in hundreds of biochemical reactions, scores of which contribute to the manufacture of energy and cardiovascular function.

What is ‘Ancient Minerals’ magnesium?

Many people take magnesium tablets. Many people have a magnesium deficiency.

If you fall into either of those categories or just want to ‘top up’ your magnesium levels then this range is going to be of interest to you.

Firstly, what it is - this magnesium is drawn from the Ancient Zechstein seabed, 2 kilometers beneath the earth’s crust. It is ultra pure and highly concentrated.

Secondly, how it can be of benefit - it is available as an oil, gel, bath flakes and lotion. All of these are applied to the skin where they absorb and the magnesium is then carried by the circulatory system around the body.

This is important because it’s rapidly absorbed better than tablets which have to pass through the gastro-intestinal tract.

Ancient Minerals is one of the widest and most effective range of ‘sub-dermal’ supplements.

I often get asked which is best! This I can’t answer!

Magnesium is truly one of those supplements that I believe should be an essential part of everyone’s supplement cupboard.

Whether using it for a serious health condition, something as simple as athlete’s foot or just for general health maintenance, magnesium is something that you should consider.

Get your magnesium now! One bottle will last a while (1-2 months depending on usage).

If you have any questions either on magnesium or health in general then here Questions will come through to me directly and I will answer in the strictest of confidence, as soon as possible.

Regards, good health....

Beautiful Skin, Inside and Out

Health News (Week 18 - 2014)
By Robert Redfern

I (and most men) take our skin for granted. We subject it to a junk food diet, smoking, chemical products and a little too much time in the sun (though daily sun exposure is recommended for healthy vitamin D levels) without taking care to moisturize it every day.

Since my diet has been better than most for the last 20 years, my skin has been noticably younger than most people at aged 68, but that is starting to rapidly change. I am now starting to take notice of my wife Anne who has always taken care of her skin daily. To be fair she has warned me for years, but now she has got my attention.

I have now started a skin recovery plan and want to share the first two things that have studies and will show the fastest results.

Two Ways to Recover Your Skin

Obviously the prime way to care for your skin is from the inside with an anti-inflammatory diet rich in my Really Healthy Foods. I am counting on this as I know you will know by now cutting out junk and processed foods can correct minor to major health problems, especially skin issues, like dryness, flaking, acne, and eczema.

What about the outside of your skin? This protective barrier deserves to look good to reflect the goodness inside. There are two ways you can care for your skin every day to support radiant health:

1. Apply hemp oil to your skin (and take it too). You may have heard hemp oil called the ‘King of All Oils’—it is perfectly designed for healthy skin with a balance of rich omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. Hemp oil works perfectly with an anti-inflammatory diet because it is anti-inflammatory and antioxidant in nature. Hemp oil will cleanse and detoxify your skin to support an even skin tone. Hemp oil has been proven effective in the treatment of atopic dermatitis, or eczema. (J Dermatolog Treat. 2005 Apr;16(2):87-94.) Also take 1 x 2 teaspoons daily. Can be taken on its own or mixed with food/salads etc

Best For: Dry, blotchy skin, eczema, and psoriasis; can also be used for natural sun protection.

2. Support skin collagen. Collagen is the structural protein that gives skin a firm, supple texture. Collagen makes up 30% of the protein content in the human body. Taking a BioCell Collagen® supplement is the best way to strengthen skin and blood vessels. A clinically proven nutraceutical that provides a unique and highly absorbable matrix of hydrolyzed collagen type II, hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin - a patented combination, it can also help reduce wrinkles and best of all in my age group, alleviate joint problems.

Best For: All skin types, especially sagging, aging, sun-damaged skin; recommended for overall joint health. This is a good time to get started just in time for summer. Click here for a Good Health Naturally special offer:

Buy Joint & Skin Matrix and get Hemp Oil FREE!

To be clear - I do plan to slowly introduce other things as well as such Silicium Silca, Derma Q-Gel (which I used occasionally), and the Pain Genie with the Cosmetol Micro-Current facelift Probes.

I am not expecting to look 20 years younger overnight but the scientific studies on Joint & Skin Matrix show good results within a few months. My goal is to achieve the youngest looking skin possible at aged 70 in in just 20 months’ time. The skin clock is ticking!

If you have any questions you can contact me directly here I will answer in strict confidence and as soon as possible.

For those who have a Bank Holiday enjoy the extended weekend!

Regards, good health....

My Heart Valve
Posted by Pedro Alvarez on 01 May 2014 01:35 PM

Health News (Week 17 - 2014)
By Robert Redfern

For those who email asking “have I had my second test for my heart valve calcification”, to show it is all-clear, I will be going next month to have a scan and will let you know the results then. I have been unavailable each time the cardiologist has visited Palma and hope nothing gets in the way this time!

Just to be clear I have the scan personally from a cardiologist (normally it is a radiologist) who uses the latest 3D/4D EchoCardiography.

Echocardiography is a painless, non-invasive, test that uses sound waves to create moving pictures of your heart and arteries. The pictures show the size and shape of your heart. They show how well your heart's chambers and valves are working and also, any blockages or calcifications in your arteries.

Echo can also pinpoint areas of heart muscle that aren't contracting well because of poor blood flow or injury from a previous heart attack. A type of echo called ‘Doppler Ultrasound’ shows how well blood flows through your heart's chambers and valves.

Echo can detect possible blood clots inside the heart, fluid build-up in the pericardium (the sac around the heart), and problems with the aorta. The aorta is the main artery that carries oxygen-rich blood from your heart to your body.

3D echocardiography (also known as 4D echocardiography when the picture is moving) is now possible, using a matrix array ultrasound probe and an appropriate processing system. This enables detailed anatomical assessment of cardiac pathology, particularly valve defects, and cardiomyopathies. The ability to slice the virtual heart in infinite planes in an anatomically appropriate manner and to reconstruct three-dimensional images of anatomic structures make 3D echocardiography unique for the understanding of the congenitally malformed heart. The 3D Echo Box developed by the European Association of Echocardiography offers a complete review of Three Dimensional Echocardiography.

Three-dimensional echocardiography technology may feature Anatomical Intelligence, or the use of organ modeling technology to automatically identify anatomy based on generic models. All generic models reference a dataset of anatomical information that uniquely adapts to variability in patient anatomy to perform specific tasks. Built on feature recognition and segmentation algorithms, this technology can provide patient-specific three-dimensional modeling of the heart and other aspects of the anatomy including the brain, lungs, liver, kidney, rib cage and vertebra column.

Doctors also use echo to detect heart problems in infants and children.

Should you get a scan?

I recommend everyone over aged 45 to get a scan every five years, if everything is clear, or every year if like me you need to evaluate how fast any problems are clearing. If you can get your doctor to prescribe it then you are very lucky. I use a private doctor and private cardiologist so I can tell them my requirements and have a sensible discussion about the plan I am going to follow. I listen to their opinion but politely disagree as in my case I am determined to heal the heart valve by natural methods.

My Plan?
Since the calcified valve is like most other health problems such as:
Fibromyalgia, Premature Ageing, Heart Attack, Stroke, Cancer, Diabetes, Thyroid-related health challenges, Neurological Conditions like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, Depression, Infertility, Chronic Pain, and Digestive Disorders, which all have inflammation as the core cause the BASIC plan is the same for all of them.

I recommend:

This is the BASIC plan and after this, a more specific plan is required depending on what the health problem is. Feel free to contact me here with any health question. This will come to me directly and I will answer in strict confidence, as soon as possible.

Will forward my results as soon as I have them!

Regards, good health....

9 Ways HealthPoint Can Change Your Life

I am always excited when explaining how HealthPoint works and sharing HealthPoint inspired tips for leading a healthier, effective and more powerful life. After spending a weekend doing just that at the London professionals trade show I want to share why everyone should have a HealthPoint with them at all times.

To remind you, Anne and I have travelled all over the UK, USA, Ireland, Europe and Canada over the past 25 years demonstrating and training in the uses of HealthPoint. We enjoyed these times immensely and are thrilled that we can support and train even more people over the internet. Here are some specific ways in which HealthPoint can change your life:

1. It gives you the Power.

HealthPoint gives you the power of the acupuncturist in your hands but without needles. Using its unique method of locating and stimulating the healing points known as acupressure or acupuncture points you will always get the point and the fast results. HealthPoint simply stimulates your body’s healthy system to function correctly via these points. HealthPoint compares to the best acupuncture treatment.

2. It gives you the Knowledge.

We created a training DVD, a QuickStart guide, and the best treatment manual we have ever seen called Mastering Acupuncture – without needles, which has over 160 different conditions that respond to acupuncture. These 160 effective treatments range from joints to asthma and even hayfever. You also get support from us, which you already know is second to none.

3. It will help you feel less stressed.

HealthPoint takes the edge off stress and anxiety. It can remove you from the perpetual state of sympathetic dominance, lower cortisol (the stress hormone) in which so many of us find ourselves and feel in more control.

You can treat the acupuncture points or use the ear clips that deliver microcurrents, alternatively called CES (cranial electrotherapy stimulation) or MET (microcurrent electrical therapy). This treatment is being used for stress, anxiety, relief from chronic pain (including fibromyalgia, TMJ pain, arthritic pain, RSD, post-operative pain, chronic pain or pain syndromes, headache pain and pain from injury), and even better the things that can result from these such as depression and insomnia.

CES/MET helps in dealing with the stress and anxiety effects of withdrawing from any addictive substance including carbs/sugar, nicotine, alcohol, prescription drugs and narcotic drugs.

Self Control

Agoraphobia (anxiety when outside) and OCD Obsessive Compulsion Disorders can benefit using CES/MET and should be a 1st line treatment. CES/MET is also being used by people playing computer games to keep them relaxed and to improve their scores. This is important as they learn to lower cortisol and yet stay in better self-control. This may be useful for all of us in these troubled times.

4. It will give you access to the best joints in town.

There is nothing to compare to HealthPoint for recovering and keeping your joints pain free and healthy. It is usually instant pain relief and with a course of self-treatment most problems will be recovered in a month or so - whether it is knees, feet, hips, back, neck, frozen shoulders, elbows, wrist and hands. All are shown in the DVD and detailed in the manual (and many more conditions).

5. It will give you more energy and mental clarity.

Although it’s common to find yourself after a HealthPoint treatment in a somewhat relaxed state— the after effect is usually increased energy. Many people report having more energy in the hours, days and even weeks after starting treatment. You may notice that you’re more in control, feeling more motivated, or just sensing a little extra spring in your step.

6. It will allow you to become your family health physician.

HealthPoint is completely safe (even if you do it wrong) and once you are practised at treating yourself you are set to treat your whole family now and in the future for any of the 160 conditions in the manual. You can even treat your dog and your horse as you become more confident. There are many people who have been using HealthPoint for over 20 years.

7. It will help you sleep.

Insomnia is one of the most common complaints seen by acupuncturists, and HealthPoint can be highly effective at resolving it. Even people who do not recognize they had sleep as a problem find HealthPoint can produce more restful nights. This often is the perfect answer when combined with my sleep formulations: RelaxWell, SleepWell and Magnesium OIL ULTRA.

8. It will give you something to talk about.

HealthPoint is a great topic of conversation! Next time you’re looking for a topic of conversation at a social gathering, mention that you recently had an ‘alternative’ to acupuncture. You’ll be an instant sensation. People love learning about acupuncture and will be fascinated with your HealthPoint. Does it hurt? How does it work? Are there any needles? People also have their own acupuncture experiences, so it’s a quick way to find common ground and make enjoyable conversation.

9. It will make you believe in yourself.

The driving idea behind HealthPoint is that we’re already in possession of everything we need to be well: diet change, proper breathing, exercise, missing nutrients, etc. HealthPoint does not add or subtract anything from this but simply kick-starts your body to do what it already knows how to do. It enables you to have the power to heal yourself. This does not mean that external interventions such as pharma drugs or surgery should always be shunned—in those rare cases they are needed for life saving measures. But it does mean that becoming healthier is within your control. When it comes to improving our physical and emotional health, most of us are capable of a lot more than we think. By using a therapy like HealthPoint, which kick-starts your healing capacity, you’re making a statement that you believe in yourself.

More Statins and Cholesterol
Posted by Pedro Alvarez on 03 April 2014 03:54 PM

Health News (Week 14 - 2014)
By Robert Redfern

After I shared the excellent article last week by a vascular surgeon I received a large amount of emails. Everyone needs to read this article to clarify the confusion. I had to reread it many times to make sure it was clear and I suggest you read it a few times as well.

Some emails came from those with ordinary high cholesterol and some came from concerned people who suffer from a genetic problem called, ‘Familial hypercholesterolemia’. This condition shows up as very high cholesterol. Those who have it die around 15 years earlier than average from atherosclerosis. Those who emailed me pointed out that this group has to take statins to prevent this premature death. I disagree.

Firstly I agree that taking statins may improve to some degree the life expectancy of this (or any) group. That sounds reasonable except I also disagree that high cholesterol is the cause of heart disease (atherosclerosis). Atherosclerosis is caused by: eating starchy carbs, high sugar foods and drinks, chargrilled foods, bad oils, cortisol (stress/anxiety) and/or infection.

These all elevate inflammation in the arteries, glycate proteins, and cause massive free radicals that damage the endothelium lining of the arteries. Your body then sets in motion an emergency action plan by which to protect and hopefully repair this damage. The first line emergency crew that is sent is cholesterol (LDL). The level of LDL is a measure of how serious the damage is. This has many essential functions but the most critical one is rapid repair of the damaged cells.

IF statins work at all it is because they are working as an anti-inflammatory (see study at end).

Cholesterol is essential

Anybody that tells you cholesterol is a disease is crazy. Your liver produces cholesterol because it is so utterly vital for the health of your body. It is possible to get it in the diet but the body cannot leave it to chance that you would consume it. You would die instantly without cholesterol – it is a fundamental part of every cell in your body.

Except in the ‘Familial hypercholesterolemia’ group the reason why you have elevated cholesterol is one or more of the causes above is damaging your cells. My question is, if cholesterol is doing you good, why would you take a dangerous drug to lower it when just as many people with low cholesterol get heart disease?

‘Familial hypercholesterolemia’ Group 1 (Heterozygous FH)

This is the common group where the rate is 1:500 births. Statins were originally introduced for people with this form, ‘Familial hypercholesterolemia’ and as I pointed out earlier, all in this group have high cholesterol. To be clear they have high LDL cholesterol and low HDL. LDL is the critical cholesterol for cell regeneration and HDL recycles it ONLY after it has done its job.

Since LDL cannot do its job efficiently as a result of the gene problem the HDH stays low. The LDL however stays high as it is being sent by the liver to help repair damage, but is unable to do its job. There is no doubt some of the 1:500 people who suffer from this gene defect live a longer life than those who do not take statins. This success is the only reason statins were then given to everyone with high cholesterol, even though the studies show they do not work and have side effects. To be clear not everyone with ‘Familial hypercholesterolemia’ lives a long and healthy life and the studies are not clear just how many do. Doctoring studies (no pun intended) is how Big Pharma confuses the media and your doctor.

Statins in these cases probably work because they are working as an anti-inflammatory (see study at end).

‘Familial hypercholesterolemia’ Group 2 (Homozygous)

This is the rare group where the rate is 1:1,000,000 Births. This ‘Familial hypercholesterolemia’ group have high LDL cholesterol that hardly works at all repairing cells and they may benefit from statins.

  1. Cholesterol (LDL) is critical for healthy regeneration of the cells in the body.
  2. High cholesterol is not a disease and does not in itself cause any damage.
  3. High cholesterol is an indication of critical damage taking place in the body.
  4. This damage is the result of eating starchy carbs, high sugar foods and drinks, chargrilled foods, bad oils, cortisol (stress/anxiety) and/or infection.
  5. The disease is chronic inflammations caused by the things at number 4.
  6. The inflammation glycates the cholesterol collecting at the point of damage.
  7. Statins may only work as a weak anti-inflammatory.
  8. Statins deplete mevalonate and hence, CoQ10 which is also critical for cell energy.
  9. Everyone may benefit much better than simply taking statins by the following lifestyle:
  10. A... Stop eating starchy carbs, high sugar foods and drinks, chargrilled foods, processed foods and bad oils.
B... Take a high dose, powerful serrapeptase formulation, such as Serranol.
C... Take a high absorbency, Ubiquinol C0Q10, such as UB8Q10
D... Take a full spectrum, sublingual B formulation, such as B4Health.
E... Try to walk 5 miles every day.

I thought of a subject for this newsletter, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, as sometimes I feel the mass population has gone crazy, but since not everyone has read Hans Christian Anderson, I left it as Statins and Cholesterol.

Instead read my eBook: IMPROVING HEART DISEASE IN 30 DAYS.

Studies (independent)

Differential hs-CRP reduction in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia treated with aggressive or conventional statin therapy.
van Wissen S1, Trip MD, Smilde TJ, de Graaf J, Stalenhoef AF, Kastelein JJ.

Author information

High sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) has emerged as the best studied and most promising marker of inflammation in atherosclerotic vascular disease. (Robert's comment: The healthy reading is 6)

The ASAP (effects of Atorvastatin vs. Simvastatin on Atherosclerosis Progression) study was a 2-year randomised, double-blind trial with 325 familial hypercholesterolemia patients, treated with torvastatin 80 mg or imvastatin 40 mg. Intima media thickness (IMT) of carotid artery segments and hs-CRP levels were determined at baseline, 1 and 2 years.

Baseline median hs-CRP values were 2.1 mg/l (interquartile range (IQR) 0.9-5.2) and 2.0 mg/l (IQR 0.8-3.0) and after 2 years these levels decreased to 1.1 mg/l (IQR 0.6-2.4) and 1.5 mg/l (IQR 0.6-3.0) in the atorvastatin 80 mg and simvastatin 40 mg group, respectively. These changes were significant within as well as between the two groups. No correlations were observed between change in hs-CRP after 2 years and change in lipids. A significant correlation was found in univariate analysis between the decrease of hs-CRP and the reduction of IMT.

Our results show that atorvastatin 80 mg reduces hs-CRP levels to a greater extent than simvastatin 40 mg. Furthermore, we show that the extent of hs-CRP reduction is associated with the progression rate of the atherosclerotic process as measured by IMT.

Publication Types, MeSH Terms, Substances C-reactive protein in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia: no effect of simvastatin therapy.
Mohrschladt MF1, de Maat MP, Westendorp RG, Smelt AH.

Author information

Patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) are especially at risk for premature cardiovascular disease (CVD). Recent studies revealed C-reactive protein (CRP) as a strong predictor of future first or recurrent CVD events, suggesting that CRP plays an important role in the development of atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of one year of simvastatin treatment on serum levels of CRP and to assess the influence of risk factors for CVD on CRP concentrations in patients with FH. We measured baseline CRP levels in 337 patients with FH. A second blood sample, collected after one year of treatment with simvastatin (20--40 mg once daily) was measured in a subgroup of 129 patients. Patients with CVD present at baseline had significantly higher serum levels of CRP (2.26 mg/l versus 1.55 mg/l, P(0.001). CRP levels were associated with smoking, body mass index, age, levels of triglycerides (TG), and the use of NSAIDs or anticoagulation drugs. Simvastatin therapy significantly improved lipid profiles in the intervention group. There was a small, but non-significant decrease of CRP levels upon treatment. CRP decreased from 1.51 mg/l median (interquartile range (IQR) 0.76--3.41) at baseline to 1.24 mg/l median (IQR 0.72--2.92) after treatment, (P=0.328). In conclusion, CRP levels were associated with the presence of CVD in FH patients. Simvastatin therapy had no significant effect on CRP levels in these patients.
